2001 - San Jose State University Alumni Newletter
Dr. Daniel Weng traveled to Taiwan during the [winter] holidays
to deliver lectures and conduct workshops on Chinese Martial Arts
at the Chinese Culture University and Dr. Sun Yet-hsien's
University. He also presented on the Role of Tai-chi in Modern
Recreation and Leisure Activities to the Graduate Institute of
Physical Education at the National College of Physical Education
and Sports and the Tajen Institute of Technology. Dr. Weng also
conducted two seminars for coaches from the National Tai-chi Chuan
Federation of Taiwan. To culminate his stay, Daniel met with the
Chair of the National Council on Physical Fitness and Sports,
Dr. I-hsiung Hsu, to discuss the promotion of the 18th
Chinese-American Athletic Tournament scheduled for the Bay Area in
2002.
Daniel also published an article in the 2001 Martial Arts of
the World: An Encyclopedia published by ABC Clio and edited
by T.A. Green. Daniel's article was entitled "Wrestling and
Grappling: China."
March 2002 - Dr. Weng Introduces Cardio Tai-Chi to Brazil
Dr. Daniel Weng traveled to Brazil to fiulfill a commitment
made to the National Shuai-chiao Association of Brazil to help
promote Tai-chi and Shuai-chiao Kung Fu throughout South
America. Dr. Weng stayed in Rio de Janeiro where he served as
the Chief Arbitrator for the National Shuai-chiao Kung Fu
Championships 2002. Dr. Weng was invited to conduct a number
of Kung Fu seminars for local coaches and athletes throughout
Brazil. The most notable amongst these seminars took place in
Sao Paulo, where he taught at the Military and Police Acadamy.
Dr. Weng also spent time promoting his newly compiled Cardio
Tai-chi exercises. Cardio Tai-chi was so well received that
the Brazilian martial artists decided to adopt Samba music for
this new Tai-chi form. Newpapers, magazines, and TV stations
all took their turn in interviewing Dr. Weng. The successful
10 day trip (March 8-19) to Brazil was capped off by a
presentation of certification of appreciation from the City of
Sao Paulo and good friendship from the Brazilian martial
artists.
June 2002 - Cardio Tai-Chi's Introduction at the 2002 IDEA
World Fitness and Health Expo
On June 29, 2002 at the IDEA World Health and Fitness Expo in
the San Diego Convention Center, Dr Weng and his assistants Mark
Wong, Diane Hong Do, and John Shutoku Shia, performed Cardio
Tai-chi on stage, per the invitation of the CEO of Heavy Shoes
(maker of one-pound weighted training shoes), while wearing the
weighted shoes. The three minute performance was assisted by
music coordinator Duke Goff and cue prompter Sean She-peng
Weng. Dr. Weng's Cardio Tai-chi 101 debut was performed in front
of more than 1,000 people. It was well received and contributed
greatly to a wider audience not only in the martial arts and
cardio training sectors, but also by other holistic groups such
as Bikram's Yoga College of India.

September 2002 - San Jose State Human Performance Dept. Newsletter
"Dr. Daniel Weng, HuP Tai-chi instructor, received an
award from the Chair of the National Council on Physical
Fitness and Sports in Taiwan for Outstanding Contributions to
the Operation of the Chinese American Athletic Tournament in
the Bay Area over the past 10 years. This event has featured
16 events per year and over six thousand participants over the
past 10 years. In addition, the organizer of the 2003 Yoga
Expo at the LA Convention Center invited Daniel to be a member
of the Advisory Board after seeing Daniel's presentation on
cardio Tai-chi at the 2002 IDEA Conference held in San Diego
June 29-July 1."
